WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

This workshop provides mental health professionals with a clinical foundation for using trauma-sensitive yoga, integrated with polyvagal theory, to improve therapy outcomes for individuals with symptoms of psychological trauma, anxiety and depression.

The training includes the in-depth study of polyvagal theory, the physiology of trauma, and trauma-sensitive yoga interventions, such as chair postures, breathing practices, yoga nidra, and meditation. The material will be taught through lecture, case discussions, experiential exercises, and hands-on practicums.

You can expect to:

  • Develop a basic fluency in the language of the polyvagal theory (a theory of how the autonomic nervous system functions), and its application in yogic and somatic approaches to self-regulation.

  • Understand the physiologically-based stages of trauma. Learn how to incorporate yoga-based therapeutic interventions for autonomic nervous-system regulation, into the individual or group therapy session, to reduce the impact of trauma on the body and mind.

  • Improve your ability to recognize and respond to your own patterns and nuances of autonomic state shifts, and to support more adaptive response patterns in your clients.

Bring home experience and techniques which you can apply immediately!
